SCAR NEEDLING AND CAMOUFLAGE

SCAR NEEDLING AND CAMOUFLAGE

The restorative nature of medical micropigmentation (tattooing) is innovative, non-invasive, and an incredibly effective solution to improve your scar’s appearance, texture and mobility. It often even provides relief from the pain and itching associated with scarring. If your wondering if you could benefit from scar treatment, don’t wait any longer, I can help!

There are a variety of scar treatment options I offer to provide aide healing or concealing! You’re treatment plan is customized to your individual scar and may include one, the other or both:

Scar Needing (Relaxation)

Collagen Induction Therapy (Scar Needling)physically breaks up and relaxes the scar tissue, then induces increases in the production of collagen and other healing factors by triggering the body’s healing response. Scar needling alone addresses scar texture, mobility, appearance and, often times, relief from pain. In addition, this treatment stimulates your melanocytes (what gives our skin color)and often results in improved color without the need to implant pigment!

Scar Camouflage

After being expertly color matched, your scar can be implanted with pigment (tattooed) to blend in more seamlessly with the surrounding skin. This technique works especially well with hypopigmented scars that are lighter in color than the surrounding skin. This process of tattooing also provides many of the benefits of needling including increased collagen and other healing factors, resulting in improved texture, and mobility. You’ll be amazed at the results!

Have questions? I have answers.

Could these treatments work for me?

I offer free consultations to answer just that! I may also request a picture ahead of time of your treatment area in natural light to help better determine whether a consultation is recommended. Though not all scars are candidates for this type of treatment, most are. During a consultation, I carefully examine the scars, offer my suggested treatment plan based on what I see, and we go from there. If you have decided to proceed, we can do a color match as well in preparation for your first treatment.

How soon after surgery or event can I get treated?

Before being treated your scars need to be fully healed. This may take up to a year. A good general rule of thumb is that if your scar is still pink, it’s not fully healed yet. Send me a picture or come in for a consultation to determine if you are adequately healed. Your treatment team is also a great resource and should be able to tell you when you are healed and ready for this step.

How long will my camouflage tattoos last?

After the initial heal, some loss of color may occur as a result of your body’s healing response. Often times, multiple treatments (with 4-8 weeks healing time between sessions) are required to get desired results. Once the pigment is established in the skin (and with the help of daily sunscreen!), your tattoos should last a lifetime!

Will it hurt?

Short answer…not usually. Most scars don’t have pain sensations and for those that do, I have topical numbing agents for. There are, however, certain camouflaging techniques that require the skin to be unaltered by the ingredients in these numbing agents, and there for cannot be numbed. Even then, clients are pleasantly surprised by how mild the pain is.

Will I be able to return to my normal activity after this procedure?

There is little to no down time with this procedure and most patients can return to their normal activity the same day. There are, however, a few restrictions; no vigorous exercise for the first few days, no submerging in any water (bathtubs, swimming pools, hot tubs, etc.) for at least 7 days.

What to expect on procedure day?

On the day of your procedure, you’ll want to wear a comfortable or loose fit clothing. You’ll want to be prepared to fill out a medical history and consent form, complete with a list of current medications as well as your doctors release (informing me that you are healed enough and ready for your tattoos) if necessary.

Are there any pre-procedure instructions?

This one is unique to your treatment plan.

  • For scar needling alone, there are no pre-procedure instructions.
  • For scar camouflage (micropigmentation) however, there are pre-care instructions. In order for your medical tattoos to heal properly and look their best, the pre-care instructions are of utmost importance. Pre-care instructions are designed to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during your procedure. Excessive bleeding during the procedure can dilute the pigment color and lead to poor results. • One thing to keep in mind in preparation for your camouflage treatment: In order to get the perfect color match, it is important to be as close to your normal color as possible (not having a suntan, not applying self-tanning products, etc).

What are the aftercare instructions?

Aftercare instructions can vary with these procedures. Below, you’ll find my aftercare instructions for scar needling and scar camouflage (micropigmentation), but please note, that your aftercare instructions may change slightly due to the individual nature of scars. You will also be provided with printed instructions at the time of your consultation and/or procedure. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Danielle 801-636-5014
