AREOLA TATTOO
Whether restoring the color or shape of your existing areolas following a surgery or trauma, or recreating a completely new nipple/areola complex with 3D nipple tattooing following breast reconstruction, this meaningful and beautiful return to self can bless lives.

3D Areola
Through the art of medical tattooing, I can create the visual illusion of a 3 dimensional nipple/areola complex with absolute realism. This can be done over flat skin, scarred or not, or it can be done to enhance a surgically placed nipple mound.

Areola Re-pigmentation
I can replace or enhance nipple color that may have been lost as a result of breast reconstruction, augmentation, reduction or trauma. I can also correct or restore the areola/nipple complex to a more natural shape, which may or may not include minimizing the appearance of surrounding scars.
When can I get my tattoo?
Before getting your areola tattoos, any breast operation sites and surgical scars need to be fully healed. This may up to a year. You should be finished with any relatively immediate chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Your treatment team is a great resource and should be able to tell you when you are healed and ready for this final step.
How long will my tattoo last?
After the initial heal, some loss of color may occur as a result of your body’s healing response. You may or may not want a touch up session to perfect color and shape. Once the pigment is established in the skin, your tattoos should last a lifetime!
Will it hurt?
No, there is rarely pain associated with this procedure. Most reconstructed breasts have no pain sensation, but for those that do, I use topical numbing agents.
Will the needle puncture my breast implant?
No, the pigment is implanted into the dermal layer of the skin, which is only 3 layers into the skin.
Is there anything I can do with the scarring on my breast?
This is something that may be camouflaged depending on what your scar looks like. This process works best with hypopigmented scars that are lighter in color than the surrounding skin.
Will I be able to go back to my normal activity after this procedure?
There is little to no down time with this procedure and most patients can return to their normal activity the same day. There are, however, a few restrictions; no vigorous exercise for the first few days, no submerging in any water (bathtubs, swimming pools, hot tubs, etc.) for at least 7 days.
Will I need another appointment?
Again, after the initial heal, some loss of color may occur as a result of your body’s healing response. You may or may not want a touch up session to perfect color and shape. This cost of this session is $120. Once the pigment is established in the skin, your tattoos should last a lifetime.
How do we choose a size and color for my areola tattoos?
When we meet, I will use a variety of mapping techniques to first sketch the size and shape on your breast. We will then choose a color to complement the design. Once the design is agreed upon, I will then create dimension with color and shading giving you a realistic nipple and areola. You’ll be amazed at the results!
What to expect on procedure day?
On the day of your procedure, you’ll want to wear a comfortable bra or loose fit clothing. You may also want to bring any pictures you may have of your breast pre-reconstruction (not necessary) for reference. You’ll want to be prepared to fill out a medical history and consent form, complete with a list of current medications as well as your doctors release (informing me that you are healed enough and ready for your tattoos) if necessary.
Are there any pre-procedure instructions?
In order for your medical tattoos to heal properly and look their best, the pre-care instructions found below are of the utmost importance. Pre-care instructions are designed to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during your procedure. Excessive bleeding during the procedure can dilute the pigment color and lead to poor results.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Aftercare instructions can vary with this procedure. You will be provided with your tattoo dressing (if applicable) as well as with any alternative aftercare balm (if applicable). You will also be provided with printed instructions at the time of your consultation and/or procedure. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Danielle 801-636-5014
